"I was especially surprised at my younger daughter's performance on stage. She presented herself in a confident, prepared manner yet seemed quite natural to be in front of an audience. This was a great opportunity for children to explore theatre arts and form friendships outside their circles - Thank you Drama Club!"

THE YOUTH PROGRAM

Youth Drama Program
This 28 week program runs during the school year with one class each week. For the first 4-5 weeks, participants will learn the basics of theatre through our specially developed games, activities, and performances. We will focus on skills in the five basic areas of drama: non-movement, movement, voice, characterization and improvisation. The students will then take these skills and use them in a full-scale theatre production where every person will have a significant role that will be performed in the spring. It provides a great place to meet new friends, develop self-expression, and learn useful skills that will allow any young people to publicly and confidently share who they are with others.

There will be two opportunities for students to perform - a showcase at the end of the fall session, and the full-scale production in the spring.

Frequently asked YOUTH questions:

What if a child has no drama experience. Can they join?
YES! Our program will give your child a love of drama and the skills to act up with the best of them.

My child does have drama experience, will this program help them?
YES! Many children with drama experience come to us with the need to hone the skills necessary to become more effective on stage. However, the added value of understanding how their drama skills can be used in daily life benefits them greatly.

My son is very shy, hates public speaking, and would be embarrassed to speak in front of others. It is hard to imagine him performing before a large crowd. Does he have to perform in your program?
All of our programming is invitational. If participating in the fun games and activities is enough for him then that is a good place to start. These will help him to develop skills and confidence. However, if you read some of the testimonials from other parents you will see that we are very good at helping kids discover their love to be onstage and performing in front of others. We have had many experiences where a child begins the program not wanting to perform, but when show time arrives we could not keep them off the stage if we tried! It is the transformational power of drama.
